Increased industrialization has resulted in a massive increase in energy demand, which has resulted in exponential increases in carbon emissions, primarily in the form of carbon dioxide. The paper focuses on solid carbon-based adsorbents for post-combustion carbon capture. Most post-combustion Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) currently use amine-based absorbents, which have their own set of downsides and difficulties. Carbon-based adsorbents have become a focus of research and development because they overcome many of the disadvantages of amine-based absorbents and can be used at a wide range of temperatures and pressures with minimal regeneration costs. The study discusses carbon-based adsorbents made from waste plastics and rubber, which are good carbon sources and how the adsorbent should be evaluated. It will also assist, reduce and recycle other waste goods by using waste products as adsorbent precursors. A review of post-combustion CCS technologies such as activated carbons, zeolites, carbon nanomaterials and Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) is also included in the article.
