Abstract

In this study we have used a population project model to estimate the population growth for Zwarah city until the year 2050 and to calculate the current and future needs elements in urban planning of the city. Other objective was to guide development by studying the natural properties of the city boarder and to determine the suitable direction of city growth. For urban planning, we have employed GIS-ArcInfo to digitize the maps and GIS-ArcView to process the data combining with other analytical measurements to display the results. The average population growth rate of Zwarah city is 7.2% per year and the local migration growth rate is 131.13% into per year, total area of Zwarah city has increased from 3.55 km2 in 1980 to 42.7 km2 in 2000.
